【Date】2020-09-24【Source】Division of Montreal Protocol

From August 19th to 21st 2020, the 9th Ozone2Climate Technology Roadshow and Forum, jointly organized by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Foreign Environmental Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (FECO/MEE) and China Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Industry Association (CRAA), was successfully held during China Refrigeration Expo 2020 (Chongqing). Ms. Li Pei, director general level official of the Atmospheric Environment Department of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE), Mr. Xiang Ting, deputy director general of Chongqing Ecology and Environment Bureau, and Mr. Zhang Zhaohui, vice president and secretary-general of CRAA, attended and addressed the forum. Mr. Hong Yun, project director of UNDP China office, gave a keynote speech and Mr. Li Yonghong, deputy director general of FECO/MEE, presided over the forum.

This year's Ozone2Climate Technology Roadshow demonstrated policies, measures, actions, achievements and progress of ozone depleting substances (ODS) conversions during the implementation of the Montreal Protocol in the past 30 years. Meanwhile, a series of forums with specific subjects were held including good practice of servicing and refrigerants forum, air-conditioning and heat pump forum as well as cold chain and refrigeration equipment forum. Representatives and experts from MEE, Chongqing Ecology and Environment Bureau, international institutions, enterprises and universities shared the latest implementation management policies, technical progress and practical experience. More than 30 manufacturers of machines, compressors, spare parts and refrigerants in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector displayed the latest solutions and applications of zero ODP, low GWP and energy efficient HCFCs alternatives, such as CO2, NH3, HC, R-32 and HFOs.

Ms. Li Pei addressed the forums and stressed that the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector is one of important areas for the implementation of the Montreal Protocol in China, and also plays an important role in achievement of HCFCs phase-out targets of the Montreal Protocol, protection of the ozone layer and climate change mitigation. The refrigeration and air-conditioning sector and related enterprises should take this opportunity to strengthen communication and cooperation, promote innovation and application of alternative technologies, making contributions to protection of the ozone layer and the ecological environment.

Mr. Hong Yun mentioned that UNDP has been always supporting HCFCs phase-out activities of China's industrial and commercial refrigeration and air-conditioning sector, especially technology research and development of new refrigerants. UNDP vigorously promoted development and demonstration of new technologies in the process of HCFCs phase-out, which will also make contribution to the process of China's accession to the Kigali Amendment.

Mr. Xiang Ting expressed that Chongqing will continue to strengthen the management of ODS phase-out, implement the responsibilities of ozone layer protection at local level, intensify registration management and daily supervision and inspection and encourage refrigeration and air-conditioning sector to adopt new environmentally friendly technologies and reduce the use of ODS, making contributions to build a beautiful China and win the battle of pollution prevention and control.

Mr. Zhang Zhaohui expressed that the Ozone2Climate event comprehensively demonstrated the achievements made by the country and the sector in implementing the Montreal Protocol and the responsible actions taken by enterprises on HCFCs phase-out. Through the promotion and publicity of ozone and climate friendly products and exchange of successful experiences in technologies, the Ozone2Climate event has made remarkable contributions to achievement of compliance targets of the sector. Under the leadership of MEE, CRAA will continue to strengthen cooperation between organizers of roadshow and forums, and actively promote implementation of the Montreal Protocol in the sector.
